Culinary students appear on Breakfast Television

Red River College culinary arts students Emma Molaro and Sheldon Saunders appeared with Wendy "The Pear Lady" Barrett, a National Food Educator, on Breakfast Television (December 11, 2009). The RRC students performed a cooking demonstration: Emma prepared Caramelized Pear on Warm Brie, while Sheldon prepared Roasted Pear, Mesculin Mix, Beet and Goat Cheese Salad.

Cre Comm student receives new scholarship from Free Press

Shelleycook Creative Communications student Shelley Cook has been chosen as the
first recipient of the John W. Dafoe Free Press scholarship for
aboriginal students.

Cook will will serve an internship in the Free Press newsroom where she will hone her craft under the direction of a mentoring reporter and editors.

John W. Dafoe was editor of the Winnipeg Free Press from 1901 to 1944.

A new feature in Red River College's Creative Communications program this year is a requirement that all students maintain a professional blog. Students are gaining exposure to the growing field of social media, developing their online writing styles, and building an electronic portfolio or work.

As part of a recent story on blogging, Citytv's Megan Batchelor (a recent Cre Comm graduate herself) --  interviewed several of the students along with PR/Advertising instructor Kenton Larsen about their experiences.

Student profiled for volunteer efforts

1407574 RRC student Deanna Ng (Disability and Community Support) is profiled in the Winnipeg Free Press today for her volunteer efforts with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.

A client of the CNIB herself, Deanna has worked with the organization for six years, helping with fundraising, assisting with
clerical work in the organization's offices and serving as a mentor to visually impaired children.

Deanna is also a recipient of a 2009 Youth Leaders in Action Scholarship from the United Way of Winnipeg.
